Elizabeth Fisher, Age 17
A child emerges from a parted fence marked by a biohazard symbol. His strength is symbolized by his central position in the painting. The firemen, depicted in gray silhouette, strongly but quietly surround and protect the area. The boy, however, is not sure that he is safe. His cheeks are puffed suggesting he is afraid to breathe. There is evidence of hope in the bright green grass, the blue sky, the boy’s clothing and the ray of light that surrounds his figure.
